Program Overview

MLPS focuses on all domains of learning — Personal and Social Development, the Arts, Social Studies, Language and Literacy, Mathematical Thinking, Scientific Thinking and Physical Development and Health. Concepts are explored through theme-based curricula. MLPS incorporates the Maryland State Department of Education approved The Creative Curriculum, Supporting Every Young Learner, and Healthy Beginnings. Curricula and concepts are integrated daily through play, teacher-directed activities, and child-initiated activities. Biblical themes are an essential part of each day and are present in daily prayers, songs and activities. Weekly Chapel is an important part of the MLPS program.

For more information about MLPS’s programs and policies, please refer to the 2023-2024 Parent Handbook.

Classrooms

Maximum class size for three-year-olds is 12 students. Maximum class size for four-year-olds is 15 students. All classes have at least one teacher (and often an assistant teacher as well) working with the children.

Outdoor Facilities

Children experience opportunities for individual as well as small and large group activities. Large motor activities are incorporated each day, including outdoor play on our playground and occasional planned activities on the church property, weather permitting. Outdoor play is an important part of the development of the whole child and therefore an integral part of the preschool’s program.

Special activities include fall and spring field trips, community visitors, a Fall Family Social, Christmas programs, Multicultural Night, Mother’s Day Teas, and End-of-Year Celebrations.
