The Messiah Lutheran Church Choir and Instrumentalists participate in the musical leadership for services from September through mid-June.  




Ronald Butts-Boehmer is the Music Director at Messiah Lutheran Church and began here at Easter in 2016. He is an organist, choral conductor, pianist and conductor. He was born in Dallas, Texas. He is a first place winner in seven piano competitions. His orchestral debut was performing the Saint-Saens ‘Piano Concerto No. 2’. His undergraduate organ studies were at the University of Texas Arlington and University of North Texas. He has several years of advanced organ studies abroad in Paris. His degree in Orchestral Conducting with piano and choral conducting was done at the Salerno Italian State Conservatory. 

Ronald has performed in concert throughout the US and in Europe. In Italy, as Director of the Choral Scholars of Naples he led numerous performances of major choral works including Handel Oratorios and the complete choral works of Durufle’. He was also an organ student of Marie-Madeleine Durufle’. Collaborations include performances with the Orchestra Alessandro Scarlatti and television broadcasts of RAI-1. He also has served as a juror for international competitions. He was also Maestro Collaboratore at the Naples Opera House, Teatro San Carlo.

For numerous years he was Organist and Choir Director at the medieval gothic Royal Basilica of Santa Chiara, Naples, one of the largest religious complexes in Europe. As a Parish Music Director he has served in churches in Europe, Florida, Texas and Virginia. He is a Colleague of the American Guild of Organists and is currently Dean of the Northern Virginia Chapter of the AGO.


Weeknight choir rehearsal time is 7:30-9:00 p.m. and 8:00-9:00 p.m. during Advent and Lent. Sunday School Choir, grades 1-8, meets on Sunday’s during Sunday School.


The Messiah Lutheran Church ‘Sunday School Choir’: Grades 1-8, meets at 10:00 a.m. preparing LSB Hymn 322, “Savior of the nations, come” NUN KOMM, DER HEIDEN HEILAND for singing during the Prelude at a 10:30 a.m. Service in Advent.

Messiah Lutheran Church Choir & Instrumentalists:


Messiah Lutheran Church Choir — The choir assists in leading during the worship service singing the Service Music, Hymns, Psalms and Canticles.  Anthems are sung that reflect upon the Scripture readings appointed and the Liturgical Calendar.  The choir sings at the Sunday 10:30 a.m. Divine Service from September to June and at services for Advent, Christmas, Lent, Holy Week and Thanksgiving.  Rehearsals for choir members are weekly on evenings from 7:30-9:00 p.m..


The Messiah Lutheran Church Choir and Instruments are on vacation from the second week of June through until after Labor Day.





Choir ~ 2018

Messiah Lutheran Church Instrumental Ensemble — This parish group was formed in August 2016 to play at services.  Auditions are open for instrumentalists.  The ensemble is composed of violin, viola, violoncello, guitar basso continuo and organ.

Repertoire includes hymns, service music, anthem accompaniments and music of Bach, Boccherini, Handel, Mozart, Purcell, Saint-Saens and Vivaldi.
