The Director of Messiah Lutheran Preschool (MLPS) is Carol Carpenter.  She joined the MLPS staff as a teacher in the three- and four-year-old programs in 2004 and assumed the Director’s responsibility in 2010.  Mrs. Carpenter has a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration from the University of Arizona.  She has over twenty years of experience working in primary and early childhood education. She has worked in both in regular and special education classrooms.  She has completed the 90-hour Early Childhood Education Certificate program for the State of Maryland and also has over 400 Core of Knowledge hours of approved training from the Maryland Department of Education (MSDE), Division of Child Care Credentialing program.  Mrs. Carpenter has also completed the 54-hour Maryland Model for School Readiness program — a Kindergarten Readiness course from the State of Maryland and is currently credentialed at a Level IV through MSDE.  In 2014 and 2019, Mrs. Carpenter coordinated and completed the Reaccreditation Self Study report through the National Lutheran School Accreditation (NLSA) which earned national accreditation for the next seven years.  She is a member of the National Lutheran Association, the Office of Child Care Directors and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

The MLPS staff is selected for their teaching ability and educational background, along with their love, enthusiasm and interest in working with and teaching young children in a Christian environment. A criminal background check is a requirement for employment. CPR and First Aid training is a requirement for all employees working more than 16 hours per week.

The teachers are college graduates and/or have a 90-hour Early Childhood Education certificate along with college credits and have training and experience in early childhood education.  They continue to participate in early childhood education-training workshops.  All members of the MLPS staff participate in the professional development activities and the required and approved Maryland Department of Education, Division of Child Care Credentialing training programs to further enhance their teaching experiences.
