Program Overview

Messiah Lutheran Preschool includes Christian Education as an integral part of each day.

Play is an important part of the development of the whole child and therefore is an integral part of Messiah Lutheran Preschool’s program.

At Messiah Lutheran Preschool (MLPS), monthly concepts are introduced using seasonal, Biblical and traditional themes and activities.  Themes are extended through developmentally appropriate learning centers and activities throughout the year.  MLPS uses the Healthy Beginnings and Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Supporting Every Young Learner for age-appropriate learning skills and practices.  MLPS focuses on all of the domains of learning — Personal and Social Development, the Arts, Social Studies, Language and Literacy, Mathematical Thinking, Scientific Thinking and Physical Development and Health.  These domains of learning are integrated daily through play, teacher-directed activities and child-initiated activities.  Biblical themes are an essential part of each day and are present in daily prayers, songs and activities.

Classrooms

Maximum class size for three-year-olds is twelve students. Maximum class size for four- and five-year-olds is fifteen students. All classes have one teacher and one assistant teacher working with the children. Messiah Lutheran Preschool currently has two classrooms.

Outdoor Facilities and Play

Children are provided with opportunities for individual, small and large group activities. Large motor activities are incorporated each day; outdoors activities weather permitting or inside activities during inclement weather. Play is an important part of the development of the whole child and therefore is an integral part of Messiah Lutheran Preschool’s program.  Children are provided with many opportunities to learn and play in all academic areas.  For school success, children need to develop physically, mentally, emotionally, socially and creatively.
